Just checking back into this entry as I think about ordering seeds early...

To add another regional resource I wanted to share the link to Southern Exposure Seed Exchange:

I just ran across your great post, and wanted to thank you for it. I was all set to order from Johnny's and Seeds of Change when I decided to look around for some more info on these companies. I ended up placing my entire order with FedCo and feel good about supporting "the little guy." I also figure that if something does well in their northern climate, well, my mid-atlantic season would be even better! (There may be flawed logic in this though, lol)

Thanks for sharing all the great seed info! I bought form Bountiful Gardens and while they are so great my garden didn't do so well here in Central Oreon. I want to try Fedco as their growing season is short like ours. oh, just so everyone know, Seeds of Change is owned by M&M Mars. I found this out about 3 years ago and have not bought a thing from them since. Just an FYI if anyone cares about this sort of thing.

This is a great indepth view of some of the smaller boutique seed producers!

I've focused more on ordering from the big guys, but will definitely explore some of your seed magazine recommendations over the winter.

Again, thanks for the in-depth review and recommendations.

Here are some other locals--but for the British Columbia West Coast (on Vancouver Island)--these are all really small, really local--they mostly raise veggies. All the varieties are OP and suited to the climate up here:

Saltspring Seeds (www.saltspringseeds.com)

Two Wings Farm (twowingsfarm.com)

Full Circle Seeds (fullcircleseeds.com)

Seeds of Victoria (http://www.earthfuture.com/gardenpath/Seeds_Catalogue.htm)

That last site belongs to Carolyn Hariot, whose partner is Guy Dauncey--a well-known activist in our neck of the woods, and wonderful author--in fact, they're both great authors!!
