Ok, I'm Dorkily Excited…
Sharon April 30th, 2008
I’m not asking anyone to buy it (and it will be available for preorder through this site shortly) – I just want to show off the really neat cover. I know, I’m supposed to be handling this gracefully, and trying to look as though I have books come out every day, but there’s a part of me bouncing up and down and saying…”A book…a real, live book… and my name is on it!” I never was good at looking cool.
Anyway, that’s really all.
Oh, except I’ve finally updated most of the pages on this site, including information about classes I’ll be offering over the summer (I’ve had about a zillion requests to reoffer the food storage class, and will be doing so in July), my next appearances (I’m going to be on a panel with NoImpactman and James Kunstler in NYC in July, which should be a blast, and I’m going to be a guest lecturer at the permaculture class I mentioned in my “Four Brothers” post), and various other odds and ends.
Ok…Must. Stop. Looking. At. Shiny. Thing.
Cheers,
Sharon

So happy to be the first person to post Congratulations OR to expose my inner nerd, Shiny.
Congrats, and I just pre-ordered!
Yay! Very Very Shiny!
That’s beautiful! Congrats…
Congratulations! I love the shiny, fruity cover.
Sharon,
Congratulations! That is a very shiny, cool book cover they gave you.
peace,
This is so fabulous! Thanks for being an eager, excited, uncool dork, because it makes all us other dorks feel good, and I think I can safely speak for many that we are eager and excited too! I can’t wait to read your book. Planning to preorder through your site. Huge congratulations!
Shiny….
YAY!
I should see if the Goldfarb selectors are ordering this, because hey — hot current topic! Alumna author! What’s not to like?
Sharon- I’ve been encouraging my kids(grownups) to read your site–now I’m buying them each your book so they can read your message (of a piece)–they are nerd readers-and pass it around to their friends. The cover is beautiful and scary all at once and truly speaks volumes. Thank you for the work you are doing. I have been passionate and active around local food issues for forty years and Wendall Berry, Gene Logsdon are 2 who have influenced my thinking –it is reassuring to me to see you take up the challenge–we need young people to give voice to the RIOT! Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.
Congratulations! I love cherries btw – must be a sign.
Great cover, I’d have preferred strawberries or apples as compared to cherries, however.
Absolutely gorgeous! Congrats!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I suck at looking cool, too.
That cover is simply made of awesome. What a wonderful design!
Shiny.
Congratulations!
)
Now I want to know how you’re going to manage a book signing for all of your fans – er, I mean readers – that we can all attend to buy an autographed copy, hmmmmm?!?!? I mean, we’re all over the world, right, so how will you manage that?
(and, of course, I have no doubt that you somehow will)
Well done! and I know what I’ll be buying for myself for my birthday.

Congrats! Writing a book is a big task and it’s great to see it come to fruition (no pun intended). Now, I see that Amazon is selling it at a big discount, but what I don’t know is whether that means that you, or a small-press publisher you want to see supported, only get half a peanut instead of one peanut per book sold. Do you have reason to prefer that we order it through your website when it is available there?
It’s wonderful — and nice to know all the staring at the screen until drops of blood appear on you forehead paid off.
However, no ISBN I could see, and I need it to order for the library.
TIA
Congratulations Sharon! You certainly have worked hard, enjoy the moment.

Whee! It’s a book cover, of a real, published book, or at least a soon-to-be-real published book. With your name on it. That’s exciting on the order of your first look at the new baby you’ve just delivered, only this time you’re not exhausted, bleeding, and unable to move. A certain amount of screaming and jumping around is allowed. And now, just like with a new baby, you’re sharing pictures.
Congratulations, it’s lovely.
And it has your eyes.
Oooo. Very nice cover! Congratulations!!!
Nice cover! Congratulations!! It’s a very special feeling to look at a book with your own name on it!
How can we Europeans buy it? Can we also pre-order through this site?
Keep shining!
I’ll have my hubby order it for our public library and all its branches.
Paz!

Wonderful! But–forgive the stupid question–what is that thing the cherries are in?
Congrats!
How wonderful! Isn’t it exciting?! VERY spiffy cover.
Deliciously succulent cover!
Ha! That’s so awesome! I’d be breaking my arm patting my back and tripping over myself doing a happy dance if I had a book published on Amazon … but I’m a bit of a bibliophile, and to me, published authors are a little like gods
. I felt that way when the owner of the farm where we went to Maine Maple Sunday sat down at our table, too. It was like being in the presence of “greatness” to be sitting with the guy who made all of it possible. I guess I admire people who are REALLY doing SOMETHING! You know? Not just smiling for the camera and saying a line
.
Congratulations! I’ll ask my favorite independent bookstore owners to carry it so that I can buy it locally
.
Cover looks great!
LOVE IT!!!!
Seriously, you should be even giddy-er! I mean a book, a real book with your name and words out in the world….it’s like having a child.(:
I’ll be waiting to order it through you though because I’m hoping for an autographed copy.(:
Wow! That is so fantastic! Who wouldn’t be bouncing up and down and spinning around in circles! Congrats!
DANG! got to wait until september to actually read it??? bummer… I’ll be on pins & needles, waiting impatiently.
A milestone… lots of work, time, & energy to create but a very real world passing on of wisdom… and wonderful to make a difference in people’s lives.
OMG! Soooo Cooool!
Hooray! Congratulations! I pre-ordered a copy! Beautiful cover (but what the hell is it?)!
Keep on rockin’, shiny Sharon, your writing is just what we need!
ooo, you’re living the dream!
Congratulations.

Wonderful! But–forgive the stupid question–what is that thing the cherries are in?
It’s an oil drum
. Congrats who designed the cover very cool 1/2 a pie on an oil drum.

Sooo pretty…makes me want to eat cherries.
I will wait until I can order from here…but I think I know what I want for mother’s day now.
OK…and a bike, and a worm bin, and a Diva Cup, and a job in Kansas…well, maybe that last for Christmas.

Awwww – a beautiful bouncing baby book – she’s gorgeous (and shiny!)!
This is seriously cool. I can’t wait to read it!
Btw – as I understand it, you will receive more of the sale price if I buy it direct from you than if I order it off Amazon. Is this the case? If so, I’ll wait till you have copies in hand – if not, I’ll go ahead and preorder from Amazon.
Congrats!
nicole
Thanks for all the kind words – it means a lot. The cover is indeed a bowl of cherries in half an oil drum. I admit, I was impressed – I have no visual or aesthetic skills, so I think distilling the idea into a picture is just amazing!
I will have autographed copies available for sale through the site once things get a little closer – and I do keep a little more of the cover price, but I also encourage people to get it through their local booksellers. Or for that matter, their local libraries.
BTW, it might be a little late for Mother’s Day – the book isn’t out until August.
Anyway, thanks for sharing in my excitement everyone!
Sharon
Congratulations! This is very cool and I am very excited for you, and us.
Grats, grats, grats! I can’t wait to buy this for all the people who are tired of hearing me say… “Sharon says” so I can stop saying it and listen to them say it instead

Congrats Sharon!
Might I ask if a cluster of those cherries comes with the book? cherries + me = happy girl
That’s great news Sharon! I preordered a copy for now, but I know I’ll be buying more to hand out, so I’ll be sure by then to get them via your suggested venues.
I’ve had a real uptick in the number of people interested in solutions to our problems and I’ve often suggested your website. Having a handily-packaged resource to hand out to folks for later discussion works well too. Once upon a time, the End of Suburbia DVD fit the bill, but as time moves on, folks are going to be moving past understanding of simple oil depletion and onto phase of needing concrete suggestions and ideas to retool their lives for the benefit of everybody. I have no doubt that Depletion and Abundance will fit the bill nicely.
Congratulations!

That is sooo awesome! What a great accomplishment….
Holy crap! Just in time for another Crunchy Chicken online green book club after Food Not Lawns!
Of course, I’ll be expecting you to participate in author interviews, giveaways, dinner with the author contest and autographed nudie pictures. Okay, maybe not all of those.
You so totally rock! Another Amazon on Amazon!
Good grief! How many Firefly fans are posting on this site? Shiny, shiny, shiny…
Kudos! It looks great!!!
Am I the only one who doesn’t get the cover?
The world in the background with a bunch of cherries on top?? Sorry to be so dense.
You should be excited! It looks like a wonderful, very timely book. I’m looking forward to getting a copy.
Nudie pictures are not happening, La Crunch. We’ll talk about the other stuff.
.
The picture is an oil drum with a bowl of cherries (as in, life is a…) in half of it – it is a bit hard to see on the amazon image.
Sharon
Congrats!
I hope you are enjoying the excitement to the fullest. Will the book be available other than Amazon? (Powells, this site, etc.)

Congrats! That’s exciting! I bookmarked it—we’re starting a new life this summer and it looks like your book might come in handy.
