Home Systems Round Up

Sharon March 10th, 2009

This is actually a set of links to pieces I’ve written in the past about how to deal with different issues at home.  Many of them come from the previous Adapting in Place class, but I thought they might be useful to people, before I move on to new content.  I encourage people to read the comments as well, which often have more detail or correctives to my mistakes.

Cooling without A/C (I’m hoping Aaron, who actually lives in a hot climate will have more to say about this): http://sharonastyk.com/2008/08/14/how-not-to-fry-keeping-cool-without-air-conditioning-or-not-much/

Sharon, this if off-topic, but of vital importance. Are you following the Food Safety Modernization Act, H.R. 875 story? On the surface, seems like a good thing to make sure our food supply is safe. Underneath, this bill, if passed, could wipe out everything you believe in — and the bill was introduced by Rep. Rosa DeLauro whose husband Stanley Greenberg has Monsanto as a client. Please educate yourself on this — it really needs to be front and center on your site, or at least covered in an article. Thank you for all your wonderful work.

Wow — a thumbnail encyclopedia. My favorite kind of Sharon post!

And, yes, Kit’s right. In Oregon they are already planning to come “inspect” all the farmer’s markets — some folks say it’s so as to be ready to shut them down when Monsanto’s buddies are done in D.C. NOT good … Farm stands next, no doubt…

Sharon, I just finished “Depletion and Abundance”, a very good job on your part. I can not wait until the next one is out. Oh it is so springtime here in Norcal. I am planting something everyday. Thank you for your courage, I try to talk to people all the time about PO, Climate Change, the economy and they all think that I don’t have all my oars in the water, whatever, Have a really good day and keep up the good work.

Of interest: I wrote the 6:56 pm comment.

But not the 5:04 am version.

And certainly did not write “Sorry… forgot to say great post – can’t wait to read your next one!”

    But I wish I had … ;)

Still — ghosts in your machine, Sharon?
