If the markets go Fubar the way I predict I might just be able to use my C to convert to a B. You can't eat gold and silver but you might be able to buy some arable land with it. I've always been a bit of a doomer/prepper so, before I retired, I started accumulating durable goods (tools, clothing, books and, yes, guns and ammo)) with the attitude that they would be of a quality and quantity that would last the rest of my life. They were awfully expensive at the time but, today, I think I made the right choices, mostly. Now, I'm 65, live in an underground house with a modest stash of "survival" goodies. Short of a nuke or a Zombie horde, and if my bank accounts aren't seized and Social Security isn't given to the banks, I think I can ride out a fair amount of trouble. Now that I've gotten over some initial "panic", I'm tending toward a "que sera, sera" mindset. My worries are focused mainly on my three grown kids who, sadly, don't seem to be getting the message in spite of my gentle cajoling. What's a dad to do? Peace and best of luck to all. OTOH we don't have enough saved to be obnoxious about it, and we are using some of it to add a glassed-in front porch and other things that will help us toward our goal to continue reducing our use of fossil fuels to zero. My DH has no interest in B; he's a city boy who has lived within 10 miles of where he was born all his life. At one point in my life I would have chosen B, but no more.
