The Big Blog Announcement
Sharon December 7th, 2009
Ok, folks, thank you for your patience bearing with me as I made noises about the blog shift, but wouldn’t reveal the actual details. Here’s the link to the new blog www.scienceblogs.com/casaubonsbook!
Now this also comes with several other exciting announcements. First and foremost, Congratulations to Anna Hess who won the blog banner contest. I got some really awesome submissions, some of them astonishingly beautiful, but I admit, I couldn’t resist the skeptical and irritated expression in that hen’s face. It was love at first sight, and Anna definitely earns her book!
Second, I’m offering another contest here at this blog - you see, it occurs to me that having two “Casaubons Book” blogs that are active is a little confusing. So I’m taking suggestions for a new title for this blog. Winner gets a signed book of their choice! Make them in comments or you can email me at [email protected].
Finally, some really cool news - not only will writing over at scienceblogs give me a chance to be hooked into from the New York Times Science Pages, but Scienceblogs just announced (this weekend) a new partnership with National Geographic. Our content will be appearing on nationalgeographic.com and other collaborations will follow. Given that National Geographic.com has 18 *million* unique visitors a month, that’s ummm…more traffic . My hope is that at least two or three of those 18 million will be interested in what I’ve got to say.
Again, this blog will remain active, primarily for class material from Aaron’s and my classes (and look for some new stuff in that department shortly), Independence Days and Food Storage Quickies. The archives will be here as well, although eventually they will also be copied over to the science blogs site as well. But your blogiste’s primary ruminatin’ will be done over at the new site, so check it out, and bookmark me or subscribe to the new RSS feed.
Thanks, everyone!
Updated To Add: Apparently I jumped the gun, folks - I’m not listed on Scienceblogs directory yet, and the RSS feed is not active yet. I think the problem may be our definitions of “morning” - the admin for Science Blogs is on the west coast, I think, and so when I got up bright and early this morning, excited about going live, she was still properly unconscious, since it was freakin’ 4am . I’m hoping the issue will be resolved today! Meanwhile, you can still check out the site and leave comments through the link above.

Dorothea’s Model Cottage
Congratulations!
How about calling this blog “Independence Days”? (Or perhaps “The Virtual Temple of the Astykarian Order” or some such?)
To keep with the “literary” theme, you could re-name this one “Casaubon’s Footnotes”
And congratulations! You are among some GREAT company over there!!
I like the “Independence Days” name for the new blog. A brief Google search didn’t find another blog with this name.
Ok, I was going to go for Independence Days, but I’d like to throw my support behing “Dorothea’s Model Cottage” seeing as you have no problem with obscure titles.
Sharon,
does the new website have a “comments” section? I can’t seem to find it; only the area to POST a comment. I find the discussion that follows your posts to be fascinating…
AmyD, Cotati, CA
who has been following you around the web for some good reads, thought provoking ideas, and just good practical advice!
I like “Independence Days” as well, but failing that, I also thought of “In This Place”
The Virtual Temple of the Astykian Order gave me a pretty good laugh! It might not make sense to the people that didn’t read that particular post, however.
btw, you promised a chocolate-banana bread pudding recipe at the end of your …starving post, but I don’t see it. [pout]
Will you do the book reviews here or there? I keep hearing about One Second After and need to ask my library for a copy.
Ah, yes, recipes are forthcoming. I’ve promised Laotian Chicken Soup as well, and will put up a recipe post at the new site this week.
Comments - you should be able to post a comment either by clicking on the post - it should show up with a “post a comment” field at the bottom or by clicking on “comments” at the bottom. If it isn’t working, do let me know, though, so I can tell my administrative overlords .
Sharon
My immediate thought was Independence Days and it look like others are thinking along those lines as well.
Can you also ask the AOs (administrative overlords) how we can subscribe to the RSS for the new blog? I’m subscribed to a few from Science Blogs, but can’t find your feed
Ah, Sharon, your Christian roots are showing. If it’s 4am on Christmas Day, it must be morning and time to get up and going!
Maybe, “Garden’s Grace”?
Then, I like “Sharon’s Garden”, or “Pantry Treasures” or even “Living at Home”. “Pantry Prep”?
“Family without a Grid”?
“Small Farm with a Big Garden”?
“Peaking with Sharon”?
Blessed be!
Is it just me, or are others having trouble finding the RSS feed for the new blog? It seems not to be listed when clicking on the RSS feeds…
Sharon, K. B.,
I just subscribed to the RSS feed for http://scienceblogs.com/casaubonsbook/ - I entered that URL on Bloglines.com (the feed reader I use) and it found the feed OK. The ScienceBlogs just doesn’t have a convenient button.
RSS is coming up - the admin is working on putting it up!
Sharon
I’m also a fan of The Virtual Temple of the Astykian Order, but since it may be a bit obscure, how about “Sharon Says . . .”, since that’s what all of us devotees begin our sentences with! (Independence Days is good, too.)
I am using Firefox, and that chicken looks really weird, All I see is a chicken eye with some red underneath, and some protrusion sticking out above the eye… huh?
Hi Vera - I don’t know what to say about this - does anyone else have trouble viewing the chicken on Firefox? It looks cool to me on Internet Explorer.
Sharon
It looks fine to me on Firefox. And there’s another post! Wheeee!!!
Yes Brandee ” Sharon Says” suits fine. The chicken looks fine on Safari.
Actually as I send this the date down under is the 8th.
Casaubon’s Archive
Fit of Peak? Congrats on the new site!
“Another Piece of Pie” or “Sharon’s Hand Book” or “Keeper of the Keys” but I do like “Dorothea’s Model Cottage” and “Sharon Says.”
Congrats on the new blog!
Got the RSS feed today - great!
And congrats - you made the “Science Blogs Select” feed today!!
I have loved using the word chatelaine since reading it here- maybe you could work that in the new title?
